Pop! Our annual summer concert guide (2024)

First, the bad news.

Several of the biggest concert tours of the year are skipping San Diego, including those by the Rolling Stones, Beyoncé and the Justin Timberlake/Jay-Z double-header.

Now, the good news.

More than 600 concert and club performances will take place here between now and the fall. The list of attractions includes young stars (Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars) and international legends (B.B. King, Burt Bacharach), new sensations (A$AP Rocky and Gary Clark, Jr.) and seasoned veterans (Los Lobos and George Benson).

Setting the record for this summer’s most expensive show is the Nov. 10 Valley View Casino Center concert by R&B veterans Maze, featuring Frankie Beverly, and the Sept. 7 Civic Theatre show “The Comedy Explosion” — An Evening of Comedy hosted by Will Ferrell. Both have a top ticket price of (really?) $500, plus service charges. (For that price, Ferrell should cast you in his upcoming “Anchorman 2” movie and Maze should let you sit in on the instrument of your choice.)

With or without Ferrell and Maze, the options are dizzying. To help you narrow down your choices, here is Night & Day’s annual guide to summer concerts across the San Diego region. (You can read our Top 10 picks here.) And since summer in San Diego extends well past, well, summer, so does our guide.
