World of Warcraft - The War Within (2024)

My only real problem with terrain was in Jade Forest. There's one point where you have to talk to Mishi to get up to this high point in the middle of the zone, where there is a flight path etc. I took the quest, didn't talk to Mishi and wandered around doing other stuff for a while. When I saw the quest on my map, I tried to get up, there, and it was pretty irritating that there was no easy way up. I read the quest text, and it just said to talk to Mishi. Ok, where the hell is Mishi? I couldn't remember where I picked up the quest. Felt like a big fail to me.

Also reminded me of a quest I did in Valley of the Four Winds where you have a panda follow you around gathering swamp water or something (from what I remember, or maybe it was kegs?). I had to log off, or died, and had to res. When I came back the guy was gone. Ok, read the quest text, and it states, that if you get separated, he will be in the Gilded Fan by the large carrot. Ok, Gilded Fan, I look on the map, nothing. Sounds like an inn though, I'm assuming it's in Halfhill. Nothing of course. I eventually find that the Gilded Fan is the swamp area north of Halfhill. Even after figuring this out, it took me FOREVER to find the big carrot. I mean how big are we talking about? Horrible directions. Turns out it was on the road north of Halfhill. You mean, they couldn't just say, "if you are separated, he will wait for you on the road north of Halfhill"? Seems like a minor gripe, but it was a huge waste of time, and pissed me off. Other than that, I don't get a lot of the problems with the story. I don't know what you're expecting anymore. How can you make a story anymore without tropes from something else? I like the feeling of the invading forces occupying the lands of Pandaria. There's a lot of potential here. I haven't tried Pokemon myself, but I think sometimes people complain because they're completionists. This is WORLD of Warcraft. You don't have to like every aspect. I have a friend that only plays for stuff like this. She doesn't like normal combat and leveling mechanics at all. I think it's great that they add "fun" side stuff like this.

Unfortunately there are so many stupid dailies that I can't even try it out. I only get about an hour a night to play, and I have to devote it to a quick dungeon, scenario, and completing as many dailies as possible in order to keep up with my guild. It's annoying that it has to be that way. They really made a huge mistake with the dailies imo. I'm lucky if I can complete one area, such as Golden Lotus, let alone do Tillers, Klaxxi, whatever else I might have to. But these are almost as important for gear as anything else. Not to mention one of the better ways to gather valor.

I don't mind doing the dailies, but it's soul crushing to look at my Golden Lotus rep and how little it has moved, considering I've been doing them pretty regularly. Then thinking that I still have Shado Pan, August Celestials, Klaxxi, Tillers, Anglers, and I'm wondering if all of those will take just as long. I'll be working on them when the next expansion is ready to come out at this pace. Just annoying from a casual player's eyes. I thought dailies were supposed to make reasonable gear more accessible for casuals. Instead it feels like a requirement for everyone, and it still feels like a distant dream as a casual.

Still, enjoying the expansion a lot so far. I'm having more fun than I've had since Wrath I think. Good times! I tried the new unlocked LFR last night, but only got in one that was on the last boss. It was tough at first. For whatever reason I wasn't seeing the indicators on the Devastating Combo move they do. Once I figured it out though, it was a lot of fun as a melee. After a couple fails, the raid came together and did great. I think only one person died. Considering the chance for failure, it went surprisingly well!

Also, Nekojin, I appreciate the lore you posted a page or two back. It was an interesting read. It's hard to gather that much story just questing on a day to day basis. Sometimes I like to listen to music while I play, and turn off the sound, so I probably miss out on a lot of lore. Is there some sort of timeline that shows the events as they unfold through the game from start to finish? I know WoW Wiki has plenty of lore, but last I looked I didn't really notice a consistent timeline like that.
